Mu Omicron Chapter was chartered on May 24, 1997 in Arlington, Virginia. Seven phenomenal Women envisioned the power of sisterhood, professionalism, community outreach, academic achievement and the longevity of this great organization, Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Inc. The Charter Members of Mu Omicron Chapter are; Monica Brooks, Avis B. Johnson, Tawana Keys, Denise Pinchback, Mary Porter, Lenor Reese, and Jessie Watson. Immediately following the establishment of Mu Omicron, Carolyn Bledsoe, Jestine Parker, Betty Reaves and Gwendolyn Walker transferred to the chapter.

For their Community Service Project these pioneering women partnered with the Northern Virginia Urban League's Resource Mothers Program. Excellent and active in their roles as partners, the women of Mu Omicron gave a baby shower for the pregnant teenagers in the program. More importantly, the charter members mentored the teenage mothers during their pregnancies and through the first year of their babies' lives. Many of these members maintain personal relationships with these women. In addition, these chartered members volunteered regularly at the Old Town Alexandria Homeless Shelter reading to the kids in the shelter. These selfless and generous members have laid the foundation for the chapter's activities and community involvement.
It has been these same standards, that set the foundation in the beginning, that continue to keep Mu Omicron Chapter dedicated to its growth, professionalism, mentorship, the embrace of sisterhood and empowering women and inspiring leaders.
